Thoughts on this? Safety? Practicality? Reliability with the petrol 2.0t? My dad is in the market for a new car after his 2005 Passat was totaled. The troublesome tdi in his car turned him off of Volkswagen but, honestly, this is a NICE car for the same money as a Taurus he was looking at.

Got one now as a loaner. Black 2015, 2.0t.

What do you want to know? My usual DD is a 2013 Passat. They are very close, but the CC is more luxurious and is more comfortable in the front seats (which are way nicer IMO).

Does he have passengers in the back often?

If I’m not mistaken, this is just a newer Passat that’s dressed up a little

The interior on the CC is really amazing.

I like the CC but the Taurus is a pretty solid choice.

long, svelte, very good looking car. same motor as the GLI/GTI. Back seat may leave something to be desired, but thats the price of that roof line. Also, even though it has the same engine, it ghets slightly less fuel econ.

id do it.

Drove a 2011 extensively when looking for a new car. It came down to CC vs S40. We bought the S40 (T5 R-Design) but the CC is a rather nice vehicle. Comfortable, decently powerful - actually it feels more powerful than it is. Rear seats were rather nice but the headroom was a detractor (FIL is 6’5’’ and would have a hard time riding in the back). For us:

Pros:
Looks good
Good fuel economy
Quite comfortable (great for road trips probably)
Interior feels huge, car isn’t
Incredibly quiet

Cons:
It was beige
Infotainment system (it had one and kept asking for an Apple device)
Gof, that color
Transmission felt vague-ish
Rear headroom
Interior feels huge, but it isn’t

My wife’s DD is an ‘08 Passat Wagon with the 2.0T (TSI) and a 6 spd manual. It’s a blast to drive and has been very reliable. After 8 years and 110K miles it needed a water pump (slow leak) and a clutch (preventative). At 90K miles it needed a new intake manifold - something about a flapper valve that was covered under an extended service plan by VW. Overall it’s been a fantastic car. Fun to drive, quick enough and very reliable. We bought it new.

Our neighbor has a similar age CC and it looks really sharp. I would say it’s going to be a ‘typical’ setup. About the same maintenance as just about any other new car, and the CC is indeed a nice car.

I think it’s stupid that the sunroof only tilts and doesn’t retract. Same thing on the Audi A5. That would drive me crazy.

He got his b5.5 wagon because he went on a lot of trips. He doesn’t do that much anymore and I told him to just rent a minivan when he does, so he just needs something reasonably spacious for himself and the occasional passenger or two, safe, reasonably economical, and reliable. With a curb weight the same or higher than our 2000 lesabre. Right now he’s looking at a 2013 Taurus with 30k miles for $17k

Very nice, definitely feels more upscale than the Passat. The 2.0T has been around for quite a while in VW’s and Audis. Right now Audi is the 3rd most reliable brand IIRC, I’d say it’s a solid choice.

Gotcha. I like it better than the Passat I usually drive, but from a practical standpoint it doesn’t make as much sense since I have a car seat and passengers. If it’s him and an occasional passenger or two it’s totally worth a close look. I really, really like the front seats. The auto-aiming headlights are cool too. Very stable on the road. It will be slower than the Taurus, though.

I actually really like this car. I drove one in Germany as a rental for almost three weeks, a manual diesel. For its price, it is pretty unique. Nothing else Toyota, Nissan, ford or chevy makes a coupe like sedan for the price range. I just really admire the looks and love the rear lights especially; they even spell out CC!
